First Baptist Church Covenant

The Covenant of First Baptist Church is part of the church constitution. It works in conjunction with the Articles of Faith to set forth the beliefs of this body. The Covenant is a reminder of what we believe and as a covenant is a formal agreement or promise to each other to live in a manner which will be honoring to Christ.

Having been led, as we believe, by the Holy Spirit to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and to be one of the members of this assembly of believers, we promise, God helping us,

we will as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts that war against the soul (I Peter 2:11);

we will put away from us all bitterness, wrath and anger, clamor and evil speaking and will be kind, one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven us (Ephesians 4:31-32);

we will as we have opportunity, do good unto all men, especially, them that are of the household of faith (Galatians 6:10);

we will not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but will reprove them (Ephesians 5:11);

we will remember those who have the rule over us who speak unto us the Word of God (Hebrews 13:7);

we will regularly attend the services of the church so that we may encourage and exhort one another (Hebrews 10:25);

we will cheerfully and ungrudgingly give of our substance (II Corinthians 9:7);

we will be doers of the Word and not hearers only (James 1:23);

we will instruct our children and make our home a testimony for Christ (Deuteronomy 4:9; 6:7); and

we will desire that in all things Christ shall have the pre-eminence. (Colossians 1:18).
